Ancient Roots Healing offers a variety of educational events, workshops, and classes to help you heal.  Get involved and learn how to empower the healer within.

Dealing with Summer Heat

Cooling foods, spices, and lifestyle choices.

Learn Ayurvedic techniques to stay cool during the peak of summer. We will cover the energetic qualities of spices, food and lifestyle habits that lower heat in the body and mind. Participate in cooling breathing techniques and relaxing yoga postures. Learn to cook and then enjoy eating a delicious, cooling Ayurvedic meal. Class will be held outside in garden at the Sandpoint Library. If it is raining, we will move inside. Please wear comfortable, easy to move in clothing and bring a blanket or yoga mat to enjoy the relaxing, restorative yoga postures.  Don’t forget to bring a healthy appetite!

We will be making: 

  1. Tahkra/Lassi or seasoned buttermilk – a delicious cooling digestive aid to enkindle the digestive fire, agni, without creating excessive heat
  2. Paneer – homemade cheese, a nutritious, cooling and an easy to digest protein
  3. Vegetable dish – made with local and seasonal vegetables spiced with cooling spices simmered in ghee, clarified butter, a cooling and easy to digest cooking oil for the summer
  4. Mung Dal – a cooling and easy to digest bean dish that is cleansing to the liver.
  5. Basmati Rice – Ayurveda’s favored rice for its tridoshic qualities, low glycemic index and ease of digestion.
